The annual Party on the Plaza fundraiser has become a Newman University staple. Themes including western, Oktoberfest and A Night in Tuscany have set the tone for a fun evening of raising much-needed funds for student scholarships.
Donors and participants return year after year to enjoy a fun night with friends and peers while dining on delicious cuisine. But they are really there for a greater purpose — to make it possible for the next generation of professionals to earn a college degree.
Supporters of Party on the Plaza know that 100% of event proceeds will help fund student scholarships.
Millions of dollars have been raised since its inception to support the Newman Fund, which is strictly reserved for scholarships.
This year’s theme, Return to the Renaissance, has a sentimental meaning — paying homage to Newman University’s annual Renaissance Faire, which was first held as a class project in 1975.
The Renaissance Faire eventually became a fundraiser to raise money for student scholarships, running for 26 years.
Vendors, musicians and street entertainers filled the Newman campus for hundreds of Wichita community members to enjoy.
This year’s Party on the Plaza will bring a bit of that old renaissance feel back to Newman with themed entertainment and music.
